Welcome to the Harvey Mudd College Sailing Club!

The Harvey Mudd College Sailing Club is dedicated to getting its members out on the water. In pursuit of this goal, we will fearlessly pursue any sailing opportunity we can to the bitter end! Unfortunately, after the sale of our 30' Shields, our options became very limited. So, in the spirit of thinking on our feet, we are re-organizing. The club still has 3 trailered boats,  a group of experienced sailors, a wealth of coastal bareboat chartering opportunities and classes, and a team of dedicated leaders to bring everything together. If you are an interested student or faculty member of the Claremont Colleges, we want you, and I would be more than happy to answer your questions, discuss ideas, or hear criticisms sent to my email: mfriefeld@hmc.edu

  • Starting up 2011-2012
    Dear Everyone,

Hopefully anyone reading this is already on the email list for this year. If you are not, and would like to be on the list, please send me a note at: mfriefeld@hmc.edu !

There are two upcoming events to take note of:
    1. First club meeting: this Friday 9-9-11 @ 12:00 pm in the Hoch (look around aviation room)
    2. First club outing: Next Saturday 9-17-11, from 10:30am - 6:00pm.
The meeting this Friday will serve mostly as an information session for anyone who has questions or concerns, or wants to hear more about all of the cool things we will be doing this year. We will certainly take input and suggestions during this time. I will also talk about other sailing opportunities we are going to pursue... like racing!

For the outing on the 17th, we will be chartering a few Capri 22's  (fun little 6-man keelboats) out of Long Beach for 4 hours during the day. We will meet and leave from Mudd at 10:30 in the morning, and return before dinner around 6:00. Transportation will be provided by some approved HMC Drivers. This is a great day sail around the protected Long Beach Harbor where the day starts of with calmer winds and usually ends with some very exciting gusts.

Look here on the site for photos from next Saturday's day on the water and previous club outings.

    Kool,

  • Final Sailing Club Event Update & Club Funding
    Hi everyone!
First and foremost, the club was allotted $3500 for next year! This is only $200 less than requested which means we will most likely be able to go on every outing planned for next year. See the flyer below that summarizes the budget and next year's outings. Only one thing remains, we must be approved for this money by the student body! SO VOTE YES FOR SAILING CLUB FUNDING.

Here is an update about next week's club outing:

Presently I have 11 people signed up (plus myself and Erik Littleton makes 13). I am going to try and organize 3 boats for this event, so we may have space for up to 5 more people.  For those of you not on the list; If you would like to be on the list, you must email me! It is simple and I will add you on immediately after receiving an email.

Finally, the weather report for next Thursday shows a warm sunny day! By coincidence, the 5th is also "Cinco de Mayo," we should celebrate this + the end of the year!

See you out on the water,

    -Max Friefeld
